Meet Your Coaches

Your coaches, Cathie Twomey Bellamy and Denise Thomas-Morrow, will lead you in fun workouts on a world-class track set in the lush forests of Blue River. Our other playground will be a guided run on the winding McKenzie Trail that sports old growth forests along the McKenzie River. In between, you'll have time to soak up the fresh air, chill out in your cozy cabin and load up on pearls of wisdom from our coaches in our intimate evening program. Read more about your coaches below.

Denise Thomas-Morrow
A native of eastern Oregon, Denise graduated from the University of Oregon in 1985 with a bachelor's degree in dance. She then moved to New York, to study at the Alvin Ailey Dance School and at Steps on Broadway. Her performance was aggressive and impressive. When not dancing on stage, she was instructing aerobics at Molly Fox Studio and Crunch, another fitness studio in Manhattan. She pioneered Double Funk, a cardio intense workout set to funk music.

Her intense dedication to dance and aerobics - and the resulting stress on her body - eventually led to her revelation that it's not just important to move, but to move with awareness. She discovered the Alexander Technique and began to reeducate her body. After three years of studying the Alexander Technique while working at Crunch, she opened her own business. She is an active participant in medical studies examining the impact of movement and stretching on people with chronic illnesses. Her interests include youth fitness, developing recreational to professional athletes, workers in offices and production facilities, and seniors with movement limitations.

Her goal: To help people find a balanced path to health and happiness through a variety of physical activities and to educate them on staying fit without injury. Learn more about Denise and her business Let's Move in Eugene.

Cathie Twomey Bellamy
Cathie was an All-American runner at the University of Minnesota. She is a charter member of the UofM women's Hall of Fame and has been inducted into the Minnesota state Hall of Fame.

Qualifying for four Olympic Trials and a veteran of three U.S. Track & Field Olympic Trials finals, Twomey Bellamy was a founding member of Athletics West, a post-collegiate Nike athletics team. Running for Nike throughout her professional career, she was ranked in the Top 10 in the U.S. on the track in at least one event from 1980-82 and 1984-88, won the indoor national championship in the mile and set the world best at 20 kilometers in 1982, was a member of the gold-medal winning U.S. team in the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in 1984 and was a member of the U.S. marathon team in the IAAF Outdoor World Championships in 1987.

In 14 years of coaching at Marist High School, through the spring of 2008, Twomey Bellamy was the head cross country coach for boys and girls and co-head track and field coach. Her tenure covered numerous team and individual championships in each sport at both the district and state levels, including three OSAA State Track and Field team titles. Returning to the high school ranks for the Sheldon Irish in the spring of 2011, class 6A individual state titles were earned for her athletes in the boys 3000m and the girls 800m.
Currently, Cathie is the coach of The Eugene Running Club. The club is for adult runners of all abilities who wish to achieve personal running goals in a team-like, group setting, under the guidance of a coach.
