About Our Speakers!
Mary Decker Slaney: Mary spent two seasons at Colorado University (1977-79) on a track scholarship before she turned pro after her sophomore year and moved to Oregon. All-Americal in cross country, she was the 1978 individual national champion as well as the '78 national champion in the Indoor 1,000. She holds two school indoor records (800, 1000). In 1980, she broke the world record for the women's mile, running a 4:17.55 to become the first woman to break the 4:20 barrier for the mile. In 1982, Decker set six world records: 800M, 1500M, mile, 3000, 5000 and 10,000. She is the only athlete to ever hold all six, much less at the same time! She still holds the U.S. somen's rcords in the 1500 (3:57:.12), mile (4:16.71) and 3000 (8:25.83). In the '83 World Championships, she won both the 1500 and 3000 events. Over her career, Decker set 36 national records, was six-time winner at the Millrose Games in NY, qualified for four Olympic games, competing in her final Olympics at age 37. She was inducted into the USA Track & Field Hall of Fame in 2003 as well as the National Distance Running Hall of Fame. (Cathie and Mary are pictured on the right, Cathie leading)

Cathie Twomey Bellamy: Cathie was an All-American runner at the University of Minnesota. She is a charter member of the UofM women's Hall of Fame and has been inducted into the Minnesota state Hall of Fame. Qualifying for four Olympic Trials and a veteran of three U.S. Track & Field Olympic Trials finals, Twomey Bellamy was a founding member of Athletics West, a post-collegiate Nike athletics team. Running for Nike throughout her professional career, she was ranked in the Top 10 in the U.S. on the track in at least one event from 1980-82 and 1984-88, won the indoor national championship in the mile and set the world best at 20 kilometers in 1982, was a member of the gold-medal winning U.S. team in the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in 1984 and was a member of the U.S. marathon team in the IAAF Outdoor World Championships in 1987. In 14 years of coaching at Marist High School, through the spring of 2008, Twomey Bellamy was the head cross country coach for boys and girls and co-head track and field coach. Her tenure covered numerous team and individual championships in each sport at both the district and state levels, including three OSAA State Track and Field team titles. Returning to the high school ranks for the Sheldon Irish in the spring of 2011, class 6A individual state titles were earned for her athletes in the boys 3000m and the girls 800m. Among accolades, Twomey Bellamy has been honored as the sports businesswoman of the year by the University of Oregon's Warsaw Center for Sports Marketing. About Silvan Ridge Winery
Silvan Ridge Winery was established in 1979 as one of a handful of young Oregon wineries. Located in the Southern Willamette Valley outside of Eugene, Oregon, our family owned and operated winery produces the most unique and distinctive array of wines in Oregon.

Striving to capture the diversity of Oregon's viticulture, Silvan Ridge Winery sources only the finest fruit from independent growers within the Willamette Valley and Rogue Valley Appellations. Through careful vineyard cultivation, vinification of small, separate lots, and meticulous blending, Silvan Ridge embodies wines that are rich, aromatic, flavorful and delicious.

Located just fifteen miles southwest of downtown Eugene, our view overlooking the rolling hills covered in vines provides a perfect backdrop for your run and brunch! Read more about Silvan Ridge Winery.
Our hosts at Silvan Ridge are Cathie (Marketing Assistance) and Angela Bennett, Silvan's Manager. Angela lettered in softball at the University of Washington, where she was known for her speed in the outfield. Additionally, she earned second-team all-academic Pac-10 Conference honors. She still plays softball -- the slow-pitch variety -- for a championship city league team.

About Massage Therapist Mike Blackmore - the "Man" of the Winery!

Mike has an M.S. in Athletic Training from the University of Oregon and has been a Licensed Massage Therapist since 1998 and is the Cross Country Track Coach at Lane Community College (previous the Track and Cross Country Coach for Churchill High School). Mike specializes on sports massage and does an amazing job with chair massage as well. This is his second time graciously donating his time at our Winery Run & Brunch, offering 10, fireside chair massages to some of our lucky ladies! (He's my massage therapist and, because he's a runner, he "gets" it. Amazing work - seriously!)

About Off The Waffle

If you have never had Off The Waffle fare, you are in for a treat. They are right when they say you should forget everything you know about waffles when you try them. These are waaay different. As in better. As in amazing. Liege waffles are made from a yeast-based dough containing imported Belgian pearled sugar, which caramelizes throughout the waffle due to its high melting point. This caramelization effect is the secret that gives the waffles the unique flavor and essence that may flatter, impress, delight, empower, and maybe even confuse you.
